Step by Step
This tour lasts about 8 hours and passes through the most important sights of Port Louis. An air-conditioned vehicle will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the different parts of the city. An expert guide will be at your disposal for the whole day.
As usual, the tour starts at the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens, which house a vast collection of exotic and rare plants from all over the world. Its origins go back to Pierre Poivre, a French colonial administrator who created it as a garden for medicinal plants. Inside you can admire the giant lotus and the Aldabra tortoises. The rest of the itinerary includes the following stops:
- L'Aventure du Sucre - An interactive museum dedicated to the history of sugar on the island. It shows the entire production process and the role sugar played in Mauritius. It is housed inside a former 19th century sugar factory.
- Citadel Fort Adelaide - A fortress built between 1834 and 1840 during the British colonial period. It was erected in response to the threat of a possible French invasion and to protect the city from attack. From here you have a splendid view over the city and the coastline.
- Odysseo Oceanarium - Mauritius' first oceanarium. Opened in 2012, it is best known for its transparent tunnel with 360-degree views and touch tank, where visitors can interact with starfish and other invertebrates.
The tour also stops at Le Caudan Waterfront, where you can spend some time at your leisure. It enjoys a beautiful panoramic view over the bay of Port Louis, making it an ideal place to stroll around, take photos or relax in the many bars and restaurants.
