Step by Step
This walking tour is designed for small groups and lasts approximately 4 hours. An experienced guide will accompany you through the historic centre, dotted with beautiful examples of the Baroque. The walking tour starts at a central and easily accessible point, such as Porta Reale. Built in the 18th century in baroque style, it marks the main entrance to the historical centre. The itinerary also touches on the following points:
- Chiesa di Santa Chiara - A jewel of baroque architecture that contributes to the charm of the city. It was built in the 18th century at the behest of Maria Vittoria Ducea, Princess of Palazzolo, who wished to have a private church for her family.
- Monastero del San Salvatore - A large religious complex, covering an area of almost 11,000 square metres. Like other buildings in the city, it has an elegant baroque style and is embellished with latticework, 13 curved iron windows decorated with floral motifs.
- Palazzo Ducezio - It was built in the 18th century and pays homage to Ducezio, a legendary Sicilian king of the 5th century BC. It now houses the Civic Museum of Noto, which contains a collection of works of art, historical artefacts and archaeological finds illustrating the history of the city.
- Cattedrale di San Nicolò - A late Baroque limestone church with some neoclassical details. To access it, you have to climb a splendid staircase of three levels.
- Palazzo Nicolaci - Recognizable by its splendid façade with wrought iron balconies decorated with floral elements. It houses a beautiful interior garden with a small waterfall, accessible by a double flight of stairs.
To enjoy the route, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, a bottle of water and a backpack.
