Step by Step
This private tour departs from Syracuse and goes to the Cavagrande Nature Reserve, southwest of the city. Transport is in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle that will pick you up from your hotel. The reserve is criss-crossed by a network of trails that allow you to explore gorges, ponds and viewpoints, allowing you to immerse yourself in unspoilt nature.
The activity lasts between 4 and 5 hours and you will be accompanied by an expert guide throughout the whole itinerary. Cavagrande covers an area of about 2700 hectares. Over the centuries, the Cassibile river has created a series of deep canyons.
Among the various points of interest in this protected area, the lakes of Cavagrande are worth mentioning. They are located at the bottom of deep gorges and are characterised by the colour of the water, which ranges from turquoise to deep blue. These tones are due to the mineral composition of the water and the reflection of sunlight. There are also archaeological sites here, such as the prehistoric necropolis of Cassibile and the Grotta dei Briganti, where Sicilian bandits took refuge in the 19th century.
This excursion is highly recommended, especially in summer. The waters of the lakes are characterised by low temperatures, an advantage on hot days. In addition to a swimming costume and a change of clothes, it is advisable to bring trekking shoes and a waterproof container to store your phone, wallet and other personal belongings.
