Step by Step
A mini-cruise on a classic Windjammer sailboat is a perfect way to explore the coast of Maine. The sailing lasts approximately 2 hours; crosses Frenchman Bay, an inlet of about 7 miles; and sails close to the Porcupine Islands (Bald, Burnt, Long and Sheep). An experience that will allow you to take unforgettable photos to remember.
In addition to the beautiful landscapes, you will be able to observe the fauna of the bay that includes eagles, seals and porpoises (a cetacean similar to a dolphin but smaller and with a more shy behaviour), among other species. The area is included within Acadia National Park, a protected area with lakes, large headlands and fjords.
The term Windjammer identifies a merchant ship that moves thanks to its large sails. Between the 19th and 20th centuries, these large vessels plied the Atlantic loaded with grain, timber and other goods. Their popularity was mainly due to the increased cargo capacity and the good profit margins they guaranteed to shipowners.
The activity is carried out even in fog and light rain. In any case, I recommend you bring a poncho and binoculars. On board you can enjoy drinks for sale at the bar, or even make your own picnic with whatever food and drink you wish to bring.
