Rome is a city to be enjoyed at every turn, whether strolling through its squares, exploring ancient ruins or cycling through its streets. Its Mediterranean climate makes it perfect for outdoor activities at any time of the year.

From boat trips along the Tiber to excursions outside the city, here are the best experiences for exploring Rome in the great outdoors.

1. A boat trip on the Tiber to see Rome from a different perspective

A cruise on the Tiber River is a relaxing and different way to see the city. From the water, you can admire monuments such as Castel Sant'Angelo, the Vatican and the historic bridges that cross the city.

It's a perfect option for those who want to take a break from walking while still enjoying the sights of Rome.

2. Cycling around Rome by electric bike with a gastronomic stop

Touring Rome by electric bike is a fun and eco-friendly way to get to know the city. You can pedal through Trastevere, Piazza Navona and other charming neighbourhoods without worrying about traffic.

For an even more special experience, you can take a night tour by electric bike with wine tasting, combining history, culture and gastronomy in one activity.

3. Ancient Ostia Antica, a trip back in time among well-preserved ruins

If you want to get to know a well-preserved Roman city without leaving the capital too far, Ostia Antica is the ideal destination. This ancient port of Rome is a fascinating archaeological site, with streets, baths and theatres that take you back in time.

Less crowded than Pompeii, it offers a quieter experience for those who enjoy exploring ruins in the open air.

4. Excursion to Pompeii and Naples for history and tradition

Pompeii is one of the most striking archaeological sites in the world. Buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, the city was frozen in time, giving us a glimpse of what life was like in Ancient Rome.

Before or after the visit, you can take the opportunity to discover Naples, a vibrant and authentic city with unrivalled gastronomy.

If you're in Rome for a city break, Florence and Pisa are two perfect destinations. The Tuscan capital is an open-air museum, with Renaissance masterpieces on every corner.

Pisa, meanwhile, is famous for its leaning tower, but it also has an impressive cathedral and charming streets. You can choose between an excursion to Florence and Pisa or focus on Florence alone if you prefer to explore at your leisure.

6. The stunning Amalfi Coast with a stop in Positano

The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy's most spectacular landscapes, with colourful villages perched above the sea and breathtaking scenic roads. Positano is the most famous of these, with its cascading houses and crystal-clear beach.

It is a perfect getaway for those looking for a day of relaxation and beauty in an incomparable natural setting.

Great tour, with time to rest on the coach on the way up and on the way back from Rome. We had a 30 min break on the way up, great little pit stop with local produce. Then onto Pisa with 1+ hours, before continuing on to Florence we had more than enough time to see the main sights approx 3 hrs.Tour guide Aaron and driver Carmen were exceptional and need to be recognised for a job well done.

I loved the rich history and ancient charm of Ostia Antica, but the train ride was a bit long for my taste.
