Step by Step
This excursion not only gives you the opportunity to spend a day on the Solinas River, but also to learn how to fish for piranhas and admire a caiman up close. An air-conditioned vehicle will pick you up from your hotel in Manaus and take you to the Amazon rainforest where the experience will take place. The tour lasts about 4.5 hours and includes an expert guide.
In the Solimões River, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon River, there are several species of piranha. The most common are the red piranha and the black piranha, both known to be aggressive predators. The guide will explain the best fishing techniques to catch them. In many local cultures, this fish is part of the diet and piranha meat is considered tasty and nutritious.
When temperatures are cooler, the caiman in Presidente Figueiredo National Park come out to hunt. After fishing for piranhas, the guide will take you by boat along the river and its channels (igarapés and igapós) to look for them. The guide knows the techniques for catching the reptile, which will give you the opportunity to admire a specimen up close. After capture, it will be released into its natural habitat.
For a rainforest excursion, in addition to comfortable clothing and footwear, it is advisable to bring insect repellent.
