Step by Step
Experience one of Vienna's most popular excursions with a day trip to the Wachau, Melk Abbey and the Danube valleys from the centre of Vienna. A local guide will accompany you from the start as you travel through the Austrian countryside, learning about its history and highlights:
- Wachau Valley: a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located between the towns of Krems and Melk. It is characterised by its history and natural beauty. It is home to vineyards, medieval castles, imposing monasteries, forests and incredible scenery.
- Ruins of the medieval castle of Dürnstein: the place where Richard the Lionheart's squire Blondel imprisoned and freed him. You will have free time to explore the monument.
- Danube River: cruise along the river in a boat from Spitz to Melk and get to know the famous wine village of Krems. This activity is only available in summer. During the winter season there is a walking tour through Krems or Dürnstein and a stop for a local meal.
- Benedictine Abbey of Melk: voted in 2008 along with Wachu as the best historical destination in the world. Founded in the 11th century, it is an imposing Gothic building that has been home to monks for over 900 years.
You will travel from the centre of Vienna in a modern bus that will take care of your transfers to and from the city centre.
