Step by Step
This walking tour passes through Coronado, a peninsula not far from San Diego with a much more relaxed atmosphere. The district is famous for its long, shimmering sandy beaches, historic buildings and the many bars and restaurants on the boardwalk and surrounding streets. The activity includes an expert guide, snacks and lasts approximately 3 hours.
You will discover not only the history of the neighbourhood, but also the best shops and local legends. As usual, the itinerary touches on the following stages:
- Coronado Public Library - The library was built in the late 19th century at the behest of American businessman John D. Spreckels, who later donated it to the community.
- Christ Episcopal Church - A small Gothic style church built in the late 19th century. It features high ceilings, original stained glass windows and oak woodwork.
- Museum of History and Art - The museum is dedicated to the history of the district, from its discovery by the Spaniard Sebastian Vizcaino to more recent times.
- Star Park - Another legacy of entrepreneur John D. Spreckels. It is frequented by locals and tourists alike and hosts annual Memorial Day celebrations.
- Coronado Beach - A golden sandy beach, ideal for sun bathing or sports.
Just a short walk from the beach is the famous Hotel del Coronado, an exclusive resort frequented by celebrities. It is one of the last wooden Victorian seaside resorts and was the first commercial building to be lit by electricity.
