Step by Step

Nashville hasn't always been called Music City. This guided tour of Nashville is designed to take you up close and personal with the city's most historic side and uncover the best-kept secrets of its most celebrated characters.

On this guided tour you'll be teleported back in time to Nashville's most turbulent era, when daring riverboat sailors, plucky pioneers and outlaws in classic local honky tonks ruled the day. Take a trip back in time and tour Nashville's iconic landmarks for approximately 2 hours:

  • Ryman Auditorium, the reason Nashville is known as Music City.
  • Tootsies Orchid Lounge, the most famous honky-tonk in the world
  • Johnny Cash Museum
  • Tennessee State Capitol
  • Downtown Presbyterian Church, one of the few examples of Egyptian Revival architecture in the U.S.

At Fort Nashborough you can visit one of the earliest Anglo-Saxon settlements west of the Appalachians, inhabited by the Cherokee for 8,000 years. You'll also pass through the famous Printer's Alley, the meeting place of the greats of the era, from Hendrix to Cash to McGraw to McCartney.

Of course, you'll get to know Downtown Nashville. Nashville's Art District was once the starting point for the civil rights attacks of the 1960s. There you will experience the pain, the struggle and the ultimate triumph of the Nashville Freedom Riders.

It will be like a journey back in time where you will feel part of the Native American warrior chiefs, the powerful record producers and the visionaries who snuck into control of what was to become Music City.

As well as plenty of time to take in the iconic sights, your expert local guide will regale you with exciting anecdotes about names you're sure to be familiar with:

  • Relive President Andrew Jackson's famous duel.
  • Find out how Chet Atkins saved country music from disaster
  • Learn how Johny Cash made history on stage at the Grand Ole Opry just before he was kicked off the stage.

We enjoyed the tour and all the musical history of Nashville. It's good to do with the family, but not with very young kids because they won't get to appreciate all the history.
