Step by Step

Enjoy this scenic cruise around Inverness. This is a one hour experience departing from a central point in Inverness where a local guide will tell you about Scottish history and folklore on board the boat. You will have the opportunity to see seals, otters and many types of birds with the binoculars available.

It's a perfect plan for all the family on a boat that departs from the Ness Walk and travels along the Caledonian Canal to the famous Loch Ness. The Caledonian Canal is a man-made waterway that stretches from Inverness to the west coast. About 60 miles long, it was built in the early 19th century to provide a safer and more direct route for ships sailing between the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

One of the most beautiful sights you'll see is the Moray Estuary, a body of water where you'll have the chance to see seals and otters in their natural habitat. You will also see ospreys, a bird known for its impressive fishing skills.

During the cruise you'll pass a number of scenic spots, including Muirtown Locks, Clachnaharry Locks and the Loch Ness Lookout. From there, and from the boat itself, you'll have wonderful views of the Highlands.

On this experience you will learn more about the local attractions, such as the Caledonian Canal itself, as well as the story of Nessie, the infamous Loch Ness Monster. You will also be able to enjoy a drink or snack on the boat on your own.
