Wine is one of the strong points of the Canary Islands, especially Tenerife. The climate and geology greatly favour wine production and provide variety and exquisiteness to the grapes. Accompanied by a good selection of Canarian cheeses, you can choose from white, rosé or red wines. However, special mention should be made of Malvasía wine, which was in constant demand in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries.
You can visit the village of Candelaria, a place considered sacred and a place of pilgrimage in the archipelago. This coastal municipality is also of historical importance, as it was here that the Castilian and Guanche cultures united around the figure of the Virgin Mary.
On the other hand, there is San Cristóbal de la Laguna, which was once the first capital of the whole island. Declared a World Heritage Site, it is a town with unique monuments, museums and churches. The cobbled streets and their perfect alignment served as a model for colonial town planning in America. It is worth mentioning that the first university in the Canary Islands was founded here.
