The museum houses a wide variety of objects such as model ships, navigational instruments, paintings, historical documents and interactive installations. These exhibits provide an insight into the important role that Rotterdam and the Dutch have played in the global maritime industry.
One of the museum's star models that you can see is the Mataró. This is the oldest model ship in Europe, more than six centuries old. You'll also see a replica of the Delft, an 18th-century East India vessel, which offers a hands-on experience of life aboard a sailing ship.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, this museum has temporary exhibitions, which are renewed from time to time and deal with contemporary maritime issues or show works by artists related to the sea.
