Step by Step
By choosing this experience, you will be able to enter the home of a Palermo family who will prepare a delicious four-course menu. It lasts approximately 3 hours and is perfect for immersing yourself in the local culture with a choice of lunch or dinner. The price includes local wines, water and coffee.
A culinary experience in Palermo necessarily includes arancini, small fried rice balls stuffed with ingredients such as meat, cheese, peas, etc. The rest of the menu might include some of the following specialities:
- Caponata - A rich and tasty side dish, typical of Sicilian cuisine. The main ingredient is aubergine, which is diced and fried until golden brown and tender. Fresh tomatoes, onion, green olives, capers and fresh basil are also used in its preparation.
- Pasta con le sarde - Pasta with fresh sardines flavoured with wild fennel, saffron, pine nuts and toasted breadcrumbs.
- Involtini di pesce spada - Thin slices of swordfish, sometimes flattened with a meat tenderiser to make them easier to roll. Often served with a salad of oranges and fennel as a garnish.
- Sarde alla beccafico - During preparation, the sardines are cleaned and opened. The traditional stuffing consists of a mixture of ingredients such as breadcrumbs, parsley, garlic, pecorino or parmesan cheese, lemon zest, salt and black pepper.
The experience is concluded with a typical dessert. In Sicily, the most famous are cassata (a sponge cake filled with ricotta cheese and chocolate) and cannoli, crispy wafers filled with ricotta cream enriched with dark chocolate, candied fruit and chopped pistachios.
