Embark on an excursion to the Elephanta Caves in Mumbai and immerse yourself for about half a day in the history and impressive architecture of this important archaeological site. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, these caves, which date back to the 5th century, are one of Mumbai's top tourist attractions.
If you request the service, you will be picked up from your hotel by a private guide and head to the harbour for a ferry to Elephanta Island. Once there, you will explore the rock-cut caves, noted for their impressive sculptures and hand-carved statues. The main temple, known as Cave One, houses a statue of Shiva in his most famous form, called Maheshmurti, representing creation, preservation and destruction.
In addition to Cave One, you will have the opportunity to explore other caves that house a variety of sculptures and reliefs depicting different aspects of Hindu mythology.
