Step by Step

This Danube cruise combines two must-do activities in Budapest: sightseeing and a traditional Hungarian music show. Once on board, you will be entitled to a dinner with alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks. The river cruise lasts about 2 hours and will give you the opportunity to admire the following monuments:

  • Parliament - Emblematic neo-gothic building housing 691 richly decorated rooms. It was built in the late 19th century to celebrate Hungary's independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
  • Buda Castle - An austere construction that overlooks the city from the top of the hills. Today it houses the Hungarian National Gallery (known for its Romantic works), the Budapest History Museum and the National Library.
  • Citadel - A military construction built at the behest of Joseph of Habsburg. Previously, an Ottoman fortress stood on the same elevation. Nearby is also the Freedom Monument.
  • Margaret Bridge - The capital's second permanent bridge. The central pillar gives access to Margaret Island, a green area much appreciated by Budapest residents and tourists alike.
  • Chain Bridge - Connects Buda and Pest and is especially spectacular at night, when its illuminated silhouette is reflected in the Danube. It is dominated by four stone lions.
  • Freedom Bridge - Recognisable by the suspended arch and the green colour of the metal. It is the second oldest bridge in the Hungarian capital.
  • Müpa - The Palace of the Arts, a cultural centre with large windows and a seating capacity of about 4,500 people. It is located in the Ferencváros district, just a few metres from the Danube.
  • Elisabeth Bridge - Destroyed by the Germans in 1945, it was rebuilt in the 1960s. It is dedicated to Empress Sissi.

The menu usually opens with a seasonal salad and continues with a typical local dish, goulash. Alternatively, you can opt for paprika chicken or roast pork. Finally, the dinner concludes with strudel or another cake of your choice.

The best thing we did in Budapest was this cruise. As we did it at the beginning of our holiday, we couldn't match the quality of activity, nor did we do anything to compare. Delighted with the cruise and the Danube river, Hungary is without a doubt a beautiful country!
