Step by Step

This evening cruise on the Danube in Budapest is perfect for admiring the illuminated monuments reflected in the river. The tour lasts approximately one hour and includes an audio guide and a choice of champagne, wine, beer, soft drinks or water.

There are several boats available and they usually depart between 18:00 and 22:00. Please note that times may vary on public holidays or depending on the season. Once on board, you can sit back and enjoy the following buildings and monuments:

  • Buda Castle - Impressive structure adorned with a bronze bird of prey representing Turul, symbol of the Magyar tribes.
  • Elizabeth Bridge - Rebuilt after World War II, it connects Gellert Hill to Pest. It is dedicated to the famous Princess Sissi.
  • Gellert Hill - A rocky crag that houses the Habsburg military citadel and the Freedom Monument. It is one of the best viewpoints in Budapest.
  • Liberty Bridge - A jewel of Art Nouveau. It is decorated with turuls, the mythological birds of Hungarian tradition.
  • University of Technology and Economics - Founded in 1782, it is still a prestigious university centre.
  • Bálna - Multifunctional centre on the banks of the Danube. It is characterised by its undulating roof resembling a whale.
  • Chain Bridge - The cast iron and stone structure is adorned with lions at the base of the pillars by sculptor János Marschalkó.
  • Matthias Church - From the river you can see its illuminated Gothic spires. It is dedicated to the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus, who celebrated his two marriages here.
  • Parliament - Inaugurated at the beginning of the 20th century, this is the true symbol of the Hungarian capital. The architect, Imre Steindl, chose a neo-Gothic style inspired by the London Parliament.
  • Margaret Bridge - It was built in the 19th century according to the design of Emile Gouin, a French engineer of the Eiffel Company. It is the access point to the island of the same name.

The glass roof and large windows provide a spectacular view. The boat also offers a free Wi-Fi connection.

Beautiful experience, hats off to Budapest by night. I went alone but I would think it's ideal for a couple. It doesn't last long but it's worth it.
