Step by Step

A night-time walking tour gives you the opportunity to discover Cologne's history and its mysteries. An experienced guide dressed as a period night watchman will accompany you through squares and alleyways, creating an exciting and evocative atmosphere. The tour lasts approximately one and a half hours.

Leipzig is a city with a lot of history behind it. It was the scene of the dispute between Martin Luther and the Roman Church, Napoleon was defeated here in 1813 and it also played a crucial role in the fall of the Berlin Wall. During the walk through the Old Town, the night watchman will tell interesting stories from the past. The highlights of the route are:

  • Alte Handelsbörse - The OldStock Exchange . The German city was once an important business centre.
  • Nikolaikirche - St. Nicholas Church, recognisable by its pastel colours and elegant neoclassical style. During the communist era, peaceful marches organised by citizens who wanted to reform the German Democratic Republic started from here.
  • Altes Rathaus - The Old Town Hall, one of the most important masterpieces of the German Renaissance. Today it is an exhibition space and also houses the Stadtgeschichtliches Museum, which tells the story of Leipzig from the Middle Ages to the present day.
  • Thomaskirche - Elegant church dedicated to St. Thomas and characterised by a mixture of Romanesque and neo-Gothic architecture. It houses the tomb of Johann Sebastian Bach

As this is a night-time tour, the visit is very atmospheric, as the caretaker is dressed in period costume and carries a lantern. During the tour, he will tell you anecdotes about Leipzig's past, such as Goethe and Mayor Romanus.
