Experience Highlights

Would you like to delve into one of the most shocking chapters of European history? With this tour of Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp from Berlin, you will have the opportunity to get a close-up look at the place where more than 200,000 prisoners passed through during the Nazi regime.

Located about 40 km north of Berlin, today it stands as a Holocaust memorial and a haunting testament to the horrors of World War II.

Your expert guide (in English) will take you on an immersive tour of areas such as the appellplatz (where prisoners were counted daily), the Zeilenbau (Gestapo prison), the barracks, the former extermination centre and the crematorium.

This tour, conducted in small groups, ensures a more personalised experience and allows for a closer dialogue with your guide.

The meeting point is in the centre of Berlin, where your guide will help you organise your ABC train tickets - if you have not bought them in advance - and also advise you where to buy food and drink for the day.

The journey to the town of Oranienburg takes approximately 50 minutes by train, followed by a 20-25 minute walk to the memorial. At the end of the tour, you will return in the company of your guide, who will make sure you know how to get back to your accommodation or other point of interest in Berlin. Children under the age of 12 can join for free, provided they are accompanied by an adult.

  • Travel comfortably by train from Berlin (approx. 50 minutes) and take a walking tour of the memorial in small groups for a more personalised experience.
  • Visit landmarks such as the Appelplatz, the Zeilenbau and the barracks.
  • Listen to stories of bravery and resistance with sensitive and expert commentary from your guide.

Step by Step

Experience first-hand the experience of more than 200,000 prisoners who entered the Sachsenhausen concentration camp during the Nazi regime.

What today is a reminder of the darkest days of Berlin's history was once a school of brutality and terror. It was also used to train SS guards who later worked in other camps throughout Europe.

The tour starts in Berlin, from where you will travel with your guide to the camp. This involves the use of the train, so you will need to purchase a day ticket for the ABC areas, either on your own or with the help of your guide.

Along the way, the local guide will give you a briefing on the Nazi concentration camp system to get you up to speed.

Once in the concentration camp, you will visit the most emblematic places:

  • The appellplatz (counting square).
  • The barracks
  • The pathology department
  • The Zeilenbau (Gestapo prison)
  • The extermination centre
  • The crematorium

In the meantime, your guide will tell you stories about the daily life of the prisoners, the brutal punishments, tortures and murders. You will also learn about the last days of this concentration camp and its use after World War II by the Soviets.

I have travelled to several places and this will definitely be one of the ones that will stay in my mind the most. The way everything is explained and the way everything is organised, makes us understand and know first hand all the horrors that have happened here. Very strong but necessary to be able to know it.
