Discover Carcassonne on this private tour. This is a unique and unrepeatable experience in which a professional guide will accompany you inside the medieval city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, considered one of the best preserved in Europe. It is a walking tour that can last from one to two hours, depending on the route you follow.
Carcassonne, located in the south of France, has undergone numerous renovations over the last few centuries, particularly to reinforce the medieval fortifications. The most influential period was undoubtedly that of the Cathars, a religious group persecuted by the Catholic Church. In the 12th century, it became one of their most important strongholds.
You will have the opportunity to recover its history and how the city has evolved. Inside the ramparts, you will have the chance to enter the Basilique Saint-Nazaire, a Romanesque church with spectacular stained glass windows.
You can also see the Chateau Comtal. It was built in the 12th century on the site of an ancient Roman fortress and served as the residence of the Viscounts of Carcassonne until the 13th century, when it passed into the hands of the French monarchy.
