Explore Diocletian's Palace with this guided tour in Split. This activity lasts about an hour and a half. The walking tour is led by a professional guide who will show you the ins and outs of this monument and teach you about the history surrounding this Unesco World Heritage Site. Also, if you've seen the Game of Thrones series, you'll be familiar with many of the locations.

One of the must-see wonders of Split, Croatia's second largest city, is Diocletian's Palace. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.

The ruins of this palace, built between the end of the 3rd and the beginning of the 4th century AD, can be found all over the city. The cathedral was built in the Middle Ages, reusing materials from the ancient mausoleum. Romanesque churches from the 12th and 13th centuries, medieval fortifications, 15th-century Gothic palaces and other Renaissance and Baroque palaces make up the rest of the protected area.

Among the points of interest you will see are:

  • St. Duje Cathedral: you will visit the exterior of this cathedral, considered one of the oldest in the world, although entrance is not included.
  • The statue of Gregory of Nin: made by Ivan Meštrović is one of Split's most popular attractions.
  • The Golden Gate: one of the main entrances to Split's city walls.
  • The Town Clock: located in the centre of Split, this clock has a dial on which you can see 24 hours instead of 12.

Also, many scenes from Game of Thrones seasons 3, 4, 5 and 6 were filmed in Split. As a result, it has become a place of pilgrimage for fans of the acclaimed series.

The palace is beautiful both inside and out, it has an incredible history behind it that the guide explains very clearly and simply. The wine tasting didn't quite convince me, but otherwise nothing to criticise. Highly recommended.
