Step by Step
The Modena Art Museum houses more than 2,000 works by Colombian and South American artists. The cultural institution was founded in the second half of the 1970s and is housed in an old factory. On the rooftop there is a beautiful terrace from which you can admire the cityscape.
A large part of the permanent collection is dedicated to Débora Durango, one of Colombia's most important painters. Born and trained in Medellín, she travelled to Europe and the United States, studying the technique of fresco, ceramics and the work of Francisco Goya. Her watercolours (but not only) are works of social denunciation. Among the paintings on display are "Massacre of the 9th of April" and "Student Strike".
It is also possible to take a close look at the work of the painter and sculptor Hernando Tejada, who was inspired by the Mexican mural masters Rivera and Orozco. In addition to the permanent collection, it is worth a visit to admire the temporary exhibitions, which change periodically.
The museum is housed in the former Talleres Robledo, in the southern part of the city. The installation of this cultural institution is linked to anurban renewal project that integrated the old industrial area of Medellín.
