Toronto Distillery District Tour

This walking tour takes you through the Distillery District, once home to the largest distillery in the British Empire. An expert guide will accompany you through the streets, explaining the history of the industrial buildings of the Victorian era. The tour lasts about an hour and is conducted in small groups of about 8 people, at any time of the year.

The birth of this neighbourhood is linked to the creation of a windmill in the early 19th century. A few years later, the growing production of cereals led to a copious production of whisky, which led to the creation of the Gooderham & Worts distillery.

During the Prohibition era, the industry flourished through exports to the neighbouring country. Production continued until 1990 and since then, this area of the city has become a centre with shops, restaurants, bars and numerous art installations.

If you visit the metropolis from mid-November to the end of December, you'll be pleased to know that a picturesque Christmas market is set up inside. It's the perfect place to buy souvenirs, sip mulled wine or listen to musical performances. Between January and March, the Toronto Lights Festival takes place here with its magnificent light shows.

The area is completely pedestrianised and easily accessible by bus. If you're staying near Union Station, you can reach your destination by walking along the Esplanade for about 20 minutes.
